Why does the programme focus on Primary 8?

Primary 8 is the final year of primary education and determines admission into secondary school. Many students complete it but never continue because of fees. Starting here means support arrives before the transition becomes a barrier, and the scholar–partner relationship can grow over five years.

Question 3

How much does it cost to sponsor a student?

You choose. Bridge Partners may sponsor one month, half a term, a complete term, examination fees, textbooks, uniforms, boarding costs, one academic year, or an entire secondary education. Several partners may support the same student over time.

Am I committed for the full five years?

No. Sponsors are never expected to continue beyond the commitment they choose. Many Bridge Partners renew because of the relationship they build, but there is no obligation.

How are students matched with Bridge Partners?

Whenever possible, a scholar is matched with a partner from a different South Sudanese community. Matching also considers shared interests, career aspirations, language, and professional experience — a doctor may mentor a student interested in medicine, for example.

Beyond financial support, partners congratulate students on results, encourage them through difficult times, discuss careers, and give academic advice through letters, emails, calls, or online meetings facilitated by The Bridge South Sudan.

Is contact between students and sponsors safe?

Yes. The Bridge South Sudan facilitates all communication to ensure it is safe, respectful, and beneficial for both parties, in coordination with the student's school and family.

How do I know my contribution is used properly?

All donations are recorded, tuition payments are made directly to schools, schools issue official receipts, donors receive confirmation of how their contribution was used, annual financial reports are published, and independent audits are conducted as the organisation grows.

What updates will I receive?

Report cards, letters from your scholar, photographs from school activities, annual progress reports, graduation announcements, and stories of achievement.

Can my school join the programme?

Yes. Partner schools sign a Memorandum of Understanding, identify and verify candidates, assign a coordinating teacher, and submit termly academic reports. Schools are encouraged to contribute through tuition discounts where possible.

Yes. Corporate supporters may be recognised as Official Education Partner, Silver, Gold, or Platinum Bridge Partners, with recognition at annual events, in publications, and on this website.

What happens after a scholar graduates?

Every Bridge Scholar joins the Bridge Alumni Network, with networking events, mentorship, and volunteer opportunities. As graduates establish careers, they are invited to become Bridge Partners themselves.
